Ssangyong Rexton to be made available across India in phases
Mahindra will be selling it's first Ssangyong offering in India, the Rexton in a phased manner.
The Ssangyong Rexton will be initially available in Mumbai and Delhi through Mahindra dealerships and the premium SUV will slowly enter other cities in due course. The Rexton is imported to India in CKD state and is assembled in Mahindra's Chakan plant near Pune.
M&M will take care of Ssangyong's entire proceedings in India including sales and service through Mahindra's dealer network. The phased approach will give Mahindra enough time to prepare its dealership personnel to handle the Ssangyong brand effectively without any teething problems.
The Ssangyong's sales and service team will be allowed to concentrate only on the South Korean brand to keep up its premium positioning with respect to Mahindra. The next Ssangyong product to be offered will be the Korando compact SUV which is expected to hit the market next year.
The Ssangyong Rexton is based on the old Mercedes M Class and is powered by a Daimler sourced 2.7 litre in-line five cylinder diesel engine which is available 162 bhp and 184 bhp guises in RX-5 and RX-7 variants respectively. The Rexton is available with five-speed manual gearbox and a five-speed automatic gearbox.
With prices starting at 17.67 lakhs in Mumbai and Rs.17.75 lakhs in Delhi (both ex-showroom), the Ssangyong Rexton will face competition from the likes of the Toyota Fortuner.
