Ssangyong Tivoli spied up-close in Chennai

Could be brought to India in CKD form.

The Ssangyong Tivoli has been spied testing in Chennai yet again, this time by Motoroids reader Nikhil Gavit. The Ssangyong Tivoli, Ssangyong's first all-new product post its association with Mahindra, was launched in South Korea in January last year and had its Indian debut at Auto Expo 2016.

The Ssangyong Tivoli hasn't been officially announced for India, but the local testing indicates that a market launch is coming up later this year. If launched, it will be the company's second model to be sold in India alongside the Rexton.

The Ssangyong Tivoli measures 4,202 mm in length, 1,798 mm in width and 1,590 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. It's available with a 1.6-litre petrol unit that produces 160 PS and and 160 Nm of torque and a 1.6-litre diesel engine that produces 115 PS and 300 Nm of torque. Both models can be specified with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission, in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive drivetrain layout.

The Ssangyong Tivoli has a stretched version too, called Ssangyong Tivoli Air or Ssangyong XLV depending on the market, but it seems like that probably isn't the Tivoli that will be launched in India, at least not initially. With its length exceeding 4 metres, the Ssangyong Tivoli, even with significant localization, won't be priced anywhere near the Maruti Vitara Brezza or the Ford EcoSport. It will compete with premium B-segment crossovers Maruti-Suzuki S-Cross and the Hyundai Creta.
