Report - Ssangyong X100 mini SUV Jan 2015 launch confirmed, seven seat variant in late 2015

Top officials at Mahindra-owned Ssangyong Motor have revealed to a media gathering at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show this week that the Ssangyong X100, previewed by the Concept XLV, will be launched next year.

The five-seat Ssangyong X100, which is Europe-bound, will launch next January if the schedule is unhindered. By the end of next year, a longer body version, with with a seven seat cabin configuration, will complete the range.

The Ssangyong X100 is a B-Segment SUV which will take on the Honda Vezel, Nissan Juke and the Renault/Dacia Duster. It will be positioned beneath the Korando C, and is built on an all-new platform, with one report putting 1.6-liter petrol and diesel engines under its bonnet.

A Mahindra vehicle about the size of the Scorpio, under the codename S102, would be built on the X100's platform in the coming years.

While the exterior is previewed by the XLV Concept, spyshots reveal the interior sporting a dominating infotainment screen on the dashboard and an almost flat floor that would add to the seating comfort of the second row passengers.

At the start of this year, the Korean company had announced the “Promise 2016” plan that aims to double sales in the next three years. Models such as the X100 would have to succeed if this target is to be achieved.
