Autocar UK is reporting that a Ssangyong compact crossover, rivaling the likes of the Nissan Juke and Peugeot 2008, will launch at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show (March 4 to 16, 2014). The vehicle was co-developed with parent company Mahindra on a completely new platform and will sell in the UK where the Korean utility vehicle major is expecting annual sales to double to 2,000 units.

Ssangyong XIV-1 Concept
The Ssangyong X100 would be based on the XIV-1 Concept showcased in Frankfurt two years ago.

The car will launch with petrol and diesel engines displacing 1.6-liters. Besides competing with the aforementioned competitors, the X100 would also be a new car alternative to used cars in the market.

Ssangyong UK's marketing manager Steve Gray says that the company will exploit the fact that the brand is Korean to offer affordable quality cars. Gray also reveals that the company's next SUV would be a model smaller than the X100. He says the vehicle would be eye-catchy and appropriate to the direction in which Ssangyong is heading.

According to another report from Auto Express, the X100 is based on the 4.1 m long Ssangyong XIV-1 Concept that was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The report said that prices would start below 12,000 pounds (12.21 lakh rupees). The volumes generated by the compact SUV would help reach full capacity at Ssangyong's Korean factory.
