Do you know the Ertiga is equally a hit in Indonesia?

The Ertiga is manufactured in India by Maruti and is shipped to Indonesia. As they say, charity begins at home and when there is scarcity of Ertigas to match the number of orders in India, there is no way Maruti could send enough of the MPVs to satisfy Indonesian demand.

Dealers in Indonesia are complaining about the production shortage which was further intensified by the recent labour troubles at Maruti's plant.

Meanwhile, Suzuki has come up with an 'Ertiga Crossover Concept' to keep the Indonesians interested and to give Ertiga fans reasons to cheer. A second concept car, with mild cosmetic additions, called as the 'Ertiga Sporty' is also on display at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS).

The Ertiga Crossover Concept gets an aggressive face with honeycomb mesh for the grille and there is a large lower air dam whose lower part runs across the width of the car. Below the headlamp, there  a strip of what appears to be LED fog lights and there is a vent beneath it.

On the rear, the car looks similar to the Ertiga and the sporty quotient is enhanced by the use of twin exhaust pipes.

The Ertiga in Indonesia is powered by the 1.4 litre K-series engine that is also available in India and Suzuki has announced an automatic variant of the Ertiga for Indonesia.

Suzuki did not discuss plans to put these concepts into production, and like the exciting, larger-than-life concepts Maruti showcases at every Auto Expo, many of these may have little production prospects. Suzuki, please prove us wrong!
