Will launch Suzuki Gixxer 250 when time is right, says SMIL - Report

Could feature a twin-cylinder engine.

Speaking about the launch of the Suzuki Gixxer 250 to BikeAdvice, Mr. Suresh Babu, National Head - Product Planning and Development, Suzuki Motorcycle India Limited (SMIL), said "We will launch when the time is right. We are not saying we will never, but when the time is right for us, we will launch.”

The Gixxer 250 is expected to be named the Suzuki GSX-R250.

The Suzuki Gixxer 250 was first confirmed by the spyshots taken at the Haojue Changzhou factory of Suzuki in China in December last year. The market name of the model is not known yet. It was expected to be showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 in Greater Noida earlier this month. It is unclear what powers the quarter-litre sport bike; some reports suggest that it would feature a single-cylinder motor and some indicate a twin-cylinder mill that is doing duty on the Suzuki Inazuma. The latter is a 248 cc liquid-cooled inline-twin unit that produces 26 PS and 24 Nm, and is mated to a six-speed transmission.

The Gixxer 250 will compete with the Honda CBR250R, Yamaha R25, KTM RC200 and the like.

The details inferred from the spyshots include a styling similar to the Suzuki GSX-R1000, switchgear consoles and instrument panel almost identical to those featured on the Suzuki Gixxer 155, mono halogen headlamp, clip-on handlebars and split seats.
