Suzuki Gixxer, Suzuki Gixxer SF testing with rear disc brake - Spied

Could be offered in a new variant.

Suzuki Motorcycle India is testing the Suzuki Gixxer and Suzuki Gixxer SF with a rear disc brake, as revealed by spy shots courtesy of Gaadiwaadi.com, suggesting that a new variant will be added on top of each Gixxer version.

The dual disc brake variants of the Suzuki Gixxer and Gixxer SF could be launched by the year-end.

The Suzuki Gixxer was introduced in the market in September 2014 and was followed by a fully-faired Suzuki Gixxer SF in April 2015. Recently, dual-tone body coloured versions of the Gixxer was launched, adding Metallic Triton Blue with Pearl Mirage White, and Candy Antares Red with Glass Sparkle Black, to the motorcycle's palette, both of which are inspirations from the brand's racing division.

Judging from the spy shots, the new flagship trims of Gixxers should not take long to launch, and they would stand apart only with the addition of a rear disc brake.

At present, the segment in which the Suzuki Gixxer competes already has motorcycles with disc brakes at both ends, including Honda CB Trigger, Hero Xtreme Sports and TVS Apache RTR 160.

The rear disc brake models of the Suzuki Gixxer naked and SF could be priced by around INR 6,000 higher than the standard versions.

Apart from the added feature for increased stopping power, no mechanical change is anticipated. The Gixxer would continue to be powered by the same 154.9 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine with a carburettor, that pushes out 14.6 bhp @ 8,000 rpm and 14 Nm peak torque @ 6,000 rpm, paired with a 5-speed gearbox.

Expect the dual-disc brake variants of Suzuki Gixxer at a premium of about INR 6,000.
