Suzuki Ignis compact crossover revealed ahead of Tokyo premiere - IAB Report

Reported to measure 3.7 meters in length.

Ahead of its world premiere at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show 2015 next month, Suzuki has revealed the first images of the Suzuki Ignis compact crossover, which was previewed by the iM-4 concept at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.

The Ignis will be powered by a 1.2-liter petrol engine with SHVS, reportedly.

Suzuki has little to say about the Ignis. A press release states that the Ignis will mark the company's "foray into the new compact-crossover genre". The Ignis is described as a crossover having "versatility for daily life and leisure".

A high view point, "plenty" of ground clearance, and capability to drive on "snowy roads and rough tracks" are other features mentioned in the statement, indicating that the Ignis will come with an optional AWD system.

A 4WD system is likely to be available on the Ignis.

According to reports, the Ignis measures 3,700 x 1,660 x 1,595mm (length x width x height). It'll be powered by a four-cylinder 1.2-liter engine with the SHVS mild-hybrid system. The engine will be paired to a CVT with optional 4WD and standard front-wheel drive layout. The Suzuki Ignis could also use the 1.0-liter turbocharged Boosterjet engine, which debuted on the Baleno.

For the Indian market, Maruti will launch a sub-4 meter SUV in early-2016, to rival the likes of the Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra TUV300. Maruti could position the Ignis below the compact SUV, which is codenamed 'YBA', to target compact cars like the forthcoming Mahindra S101 (Mahindra XUV100).
