Next gen Suzuki Jimny expected to increase European sales by 20% - Report

Autocar UK reports that Suzuki Motor is expecting the next-gen Suzuki Jimny to increase European sales by 20 percent when it arrives in the latter half of 2018. Their target for next year is 300,000 units for a 1.5% market share and believes that the 3-door UV could contribute significantly.

The new Jimny will break cover at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show later this month. Leaked renders and spy shots reveal just about everything we can expect to see when it arrives in showrooms next year. The boxy styling and tough features help emphasise its off-road abilities, instead of following the footsteps of Suzuki Vitara or the Suzuki Vitara Brezza.

It looks like a mini Mercedes G Class with its boxy proportions, round headlamps, squared-off wheel arches and tail-lights located on the bumper. The interior will integrate contemporary elements over utilitarian styling, featuring a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, multifunction steering wheel, and a larger multi-info display.

The next-gen Jimny could be offered with the 1.0 Boosterjet or 1.2 L Dualjet engines depending on the price segment of each market. It will feature an upgraded version of the AllGrip 4×4 setup with a regular low-range gear selector. An automatic transmission option would be available for the first time to maximise its appeal.
