Suzuki SV650 may come to India - Report

Suzuki Motorcycle India may expand its middleweight product portfolio with the launch of the new SV650 naked roadster, reports BikeDekho.

The Suzuki SV650, if launched, will come to India via the CKD route and retail at approximately INR 6.20 lakh*.

The SV650 will join Suzuki Motorcycle India’s CKD imports list, which includes the V-Strom 650 XT, GSX-S750 and the Hayabusa. The naked roadster will reportedly cost close to the INR 6.20 lakh*. Suzuki’s current middleweight roadster in our market, the GSX-S750, retails at INR 7.47 lakh*. The SV650 will rival the likes of Kawasaki Z650, Triumph Bonneville and the CFMoto 650NK in our market.

The Indian-spec SV650, if launched, will come with a BS-VI (Euro-V) compliant motor. The Euro-IV 645 cc V-twin, liquid-cooled engine on the SV650 pumps out 76.14 PS of peak power at 8,500 rpm and 64 Nm of max torque at 8,100 rpm. The powertrain is linked to a 6-speed transmission.

New colour and graphics should be introduced along with the Euro-V upgrade. The motorcycle will most likely retain its retro looks, and continue to use the round headlight on the front fascia, along with the compact fly-screen. The instrument console will retain a digital display. The updated model may come with a full-LED headlamp, though.

The muscular fuel tank, exposed trellis frame and the engine cowl on the current model look appealing, and we do not expect to see much changes to their styling with the Euro-V upgrade. Hardware specifications, too, are likely to remain unaltered. The braking department on the motorcycle comprises dual disc brakes at the front and a single disc at the back, while the safety net is handled by ABS. Shock absorption tasks are handled by right-side-up telescopic forks at the front and an adjustable monoshock at the rear.

The SV650, if launched, will be sold via the Suzuki Big Bike dealerships across the country. It will be an alternative for folks who are looking for a performance-oriented middleweight roadster but with retro-styling.

The Suzuki SV650 will compete with the Kawasaki Z650, the Triumph Bonneville and the likes.

Suzuki also offers the SV650 in a Scrambler avatar, and it will be interesting to see if the Indian arm brings that variant to our shores.
