Guangzhou Live - India-bound Suzuki SX4 S Cross

Renault Duster rival has launched in most global markets.

The ongoing Guangzhou Motor Show might be China-centric, but that doesn't mean it's completely unrelated to the Indian market. There are a few products that made their appearance in China before making it to India. One such product is the Suzuki S-Cross. The crossover was exhibited at Guangzhou, before its expected Indian arrival in early 2015.

Launched in China last year at 109,800 yuan (INR 11.06 lakhs) for the base variant, the S-Cross is a bit more masculine, and not to mention, fresher in comparison to its global predecessor, the erstwhile SX4.

The vehicle has a dual-tone scheme running across the body thanks to the black plastic cladding, which adds slight ruggedness to the design. On the inside, it's a familiar affair with some parts common with the Swift, but on the whole, the S-Cross is known to have a decent quality cabin.

Maruti will begin selling the S-Cross from early next year, and was previewed at the 2014 Auto Expo. To be available in both petrol and diesel versions and later with CNG, and is likely to be positioned in the Rs 8-11 lakh price bracket, but given how wisely the Ciaz was priced, the carmaker is likely to keep it very competitive. The competition mainly comprises of the Ford EcoSport, the Renault Duster, the upcoming Hyundai ix25 (also showcased at the Guangzhou show), and the recently launched new Mahindra Scorpio.

Apart from its appearance at the Guangzhou Motor Show, the S-Cross was also presented in Malaysia recently, just ahead of its launch there.
