Suzuki Vitara compact SUV patented - China
To be positioned above the S-Cross.
The Chinese media report that the new Suzuki Vitara compact SUV revealed at the Paris Motor Show this year could soon launch in China. The Changan-Suzuki joint venture has applied for patenting the SUV, as these images show.
Set to go on sale in Europe first, the Vitara is announced with 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The petrol unit makes 120 hp and 156 Nm of torque while the diesel (which is a Fiat MultiJet unit) develops 120 hp and 320 Nm of torque.
The petrol engine, which is what China would get, is available with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The base variants are front wheel drive, whereas Suzuki's ALLGRIP 4WD technology is seen on the top-end models.
Suzuki announced that the European spec Vitara measures 4,175 mm in length, 1,775 mm in width, 1,610 mm in height and 2,500 mm in wheelbase. The 5-seater has a luggage capacity of 375 liters.

In China, and in other markets, the Vitara will be positioned above the S-Cross. The latter will launch in India early next year, while Maruti could explore the possibility of launching the Vitara once it has introduced the S-Cross and the sub-4 meter XA-Alpha based compact SUV.
