Tata Motors takes a dig at the newborn Jeep Compass
Jeep has finally launched the Compass in India at a very attractive starting price of just INR 14.95 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). Tata Motors, obviously feeling the heat, has taken a dig at the Compass the next day saying that the Hexa "Takes you anywhere. No compass required."
Tata has also released a specifications comparison of the two cars. Stating facts, the Hexa scores above the Compass in terms of pricing, seating capacity, and features. Unlike the Compass, the Hexa gets a 10-speaker audio system, rain sensing wipers, cruise control, optional sunroof and more. The Hexa has a bigger engine with a higher torque output at 400 Nm as opposed to the Compass' 350 Nm. Tata also offers the Hexa diesel with an automatic transmission option.
For the comparison, Tata has used the top spec XT trim of the Hexa and Limited trim of the Compass. They have a price tag of INR 15.03 Lakhs and INR 18.05 Lakhs respectively. While Tata Motors might have the better offering on paper, Jeep's perceived brand image of being a premium name will be a cause of worry. Jeep is already reporting 5,000+ bookings for the Compass with petrol and automatic transmission variants to come later this year.
