Tork Motors will launch its T6X electric motorcycle by the end of the year, reports Economic Times. Speaking to Economic Times, Kapil Shelke, CEO, Tork Motors, said:

All the electronics have regulatory approval. That takes care of the major approval requirements for the vehicle and the balance of the components will be certified as they start coming in.

Shelke further added:

Instead of going all out, we will prefer to see the market reception and slowly build it from there... The assembly will start then. The company will give a touch and feel of the bike through the experience centres.

Tork Motors will import the lithium-ion battery from a South-East Asian country and source the rest of the components locally. Shelke said that the T6X will have 90% local components. Heavy localisation of the parts will help the company to keep the costs low and prices competitive. It will also allow the motorcycle to benefit from the FAME-II subsidy. As reported earlier, 50% of the components are required to be sourced locally for getting subsidy under the FAME-II scheme.

Regular readers would remember that Tork Motorcycles had launched the T6X in September 2016 at an ex-factory price of INR 1.25 lakh. The deliveries of the electric motorcycle were expected to commence from March 2017 although the company CFO confirmed in November 2017 that the shipments are delayed. The final price may be higher than originally announced, though, as the company has "vastly improved product now."
