The Toyota GD engines of displacement 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre (pictured) replace the KD engines of 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre displacement respectively.

Unveiled at the Vienna Motor Symposium this year, the new GD series of diesel engines replace the KD engines in the company's next generation IMV-platform products that include the 2016 Toyota Hilux, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner and the incoming 2016 Toyota Innova.

The GD engine family has the 2.4-litre 2GD-FTV that replaces the 2.5-litre 2KD-FTV and the 2.8-litre 1GD-FTV that succeeds the 3.0-litre 1KD-FTV engine. Both GD engines feature an Economy with Superior Thermal Efficient Combustion (ESTEC) system, a Variable-Nozzle Turbocharger, the company’s first urea Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) which is said to eliminate 99% of NoX emissions, and a Thermo Swing Wall Insulation Technology (TSWIN) that improves efficiency by 15 percent and torque by 25 percent, according to Toyota.
