In Malaysia, the competition is familiar territory with the Ford Everest (Endeavour), Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Isuzu MU-X.

The new Fortuner is slightly bigger than the outgoing model, measuring 4,795 mm long (90 mm longer than the outgoing model) but has the same wheelbase of 2,750 mm. Exterior features include sleek LED headlights with daytime running lamps and LED taillights, 18-inch alloy wheels, rear spoiler, shark fin antenna, ORVM-integrated turn signals, floating roof impression and an electric tailgate.

Inside, the cabin is upholstered in leather and is equipped with a new multifunction 3-spoke steering wheel, TFT-screen for MID in the new instrument cluster, 8-way electric driver’s seat, 8-inch touchscreen entertainment system, chilled glovebox, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, electrically adjustable door mirrors with power folding function, engine Start/Stop button paired with Smart Key entry, and cruise control.

The Fortuner offers Toyota’s new 2.4-liter turbodiesel unit with 150 PS and 400 Nm, a 2.7-liter four-cylinder VVT-i petrol engine delivering 122 hp and 245 Nm of torque, and a 2.8-liter turbodiesel motor with 177 PS and 450 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic, while a 4×4 drive system is offered in top-end trims.

The new Fortuner is expected to arrive in the Indian market in 2017. The long delay is attributed to the plans of manufacturing the Fortuner in India with good localization levels.
