1. What is Toyota Harrier?
Toyota Harrier is a compact crossover SUV from the Japanese auto giant Toyota. In its production since 1997, the Toyota Harrier has cemented a firm foothold among the fan-followers worldwide. The Toyota Harrier is named for the eatern mash harrier which is a bird of prey common to Hokkaido or northern Honshu in Japanese. Over two decades of presence, Toyota has given the Harrier a slew of updates and generation changes.
Recently, the Japanese automaker launched the fourth-gen Toyota Harrier in the international market. While there’s no confirmation on the launch of the compact SUV in the Indian market, the company might bring it to our country given the popularity of SUVs in India, of course with a different nameplate. 2. Is Toyota Harrier same as Tata Harrier?
It is interesting that the Toyota Harrier and Tata Harrier might be competing with each other directly in the same segment if it’s launched here. Not just the name, both the Tata Harrier and Toyota Harrier are handsome-looking SUV cars in India. However, it is understandable that the Harriers, under different umbrella company, sports a striking different in terms of design cues, features and performance. If the Toyota Harrier uses sleek-looking conventional headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, the Harrier gets vertical-split headlamps with LED DRLs strip.
The front face of the Toyota Harrier and Tata Harrier are different while the side profile is similar. Since both are under the same segment, the Toyota Harrier and Tata Harrier sports premium interiors with high-quality materials.
As far as the performance go, the new-gen Toyota Harrier comes with two engine options including a 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 2.5-litre petrol hybrid engine setup. The former can generate 173 PS of max power and 207 Nm of torque while the latter churns out a combined power output of 22 PS. The Tata Harrier, on the other hand, is currently available with a 2.0-litre turbo diesel motor unit only.
3. Toyota Harrier Competitors
If the Toyota Harrier is coming to India, it will face the fierce competition from the Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta or Mahindra XUV500. It’s predicted that the Toyota Harrier will make Toyota India’s SUV lineup more attractive and impressive. Currently, Toyota just sells the Toyota Fortuner and the rebadged Toyota Urban Cruiser as the SUV offerings in India.
4. When will Toyota Harrier be launched in India?
There are some rumours around Toyota Harrier launch date in India. It is believed that the car might come to India as a very competitive SUV. The exact launch timeline of the Toyota Harrier is yet to be known. Also, Toyota has not developed the TNGA platform in India, which underpins the Toyota Harier.
