5 things we know about the Toyota Innova Crysta - IAB Picks

Toyota Kirloskar Motor unveiled the India-spec Toyota Innova Crysta (second generation Toyota Innova) at the Auto Expo 2016, which is expected to go on sale in the middle of 2016. Here are 5 things we know about the Innova Crysta.

1. Bookings unofficially open

Several Toyota dealers across India are accepting bookings for the Toyota Innova Crysta, which has not been made official by TKM. The minimum deposit is INR 50,000, and deliveries are promised to take place in May 2016.

2. Engine lineup

The Indonesian-spec Toyota Innova is available with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 139 PS and 183 Nm of torque and a 2.4-liter GD diesel engine producing 149 PS and 342 Nm of torque with the 5-speed manual transmission or 360 Nm of torque with the 6-speed automatic transmission.

Given the ban on diesel-powered vehicles with engine displacements over 2.0-liters, Toyota could introduce the petrol variant, should the ban stay beyond March 31. Also on the cards is a more-powerful 2.8-liter GD diesel engine with 177 PS and 450 Nm of torque, which was first seen in the Innova Crysta at the Auto Expo 2016.

3. 6-speed AT confirmed for the Indian market

The top-end diesel variant will feature a 6-speed automatic gearbox, which is a first for the Innova. It will be the second MPV in the market to offer an option of an automatic gearbox, first being the Maruti Ertiga.

4. Features that are confirmed

The Toyota Innova Crysta will likely be the most feature-packed MPV when it goes on sale in the country. Some of the confirmed features include 17-inch alloy wheels, smart entry system with start/stop button, easy close back door, chrome window lining, airbags as standard along with ABS, EBD and BA, automatic climate control with rear cooler, 7-inch audio system with navigation, cruise control, powered driver’s seat, front seat with easy slide from rear, 1-touch tumble for 2nd row seats and 1-touch third row space up seats.

5. Expected to cost INR 1-1.5L more than existing Innova

Given that the new Innova Crysta will target customers from the premium segment with its long list of features, sizing and engine options, it is expected to cost INR 1-1.5L more than the existing model. The first gen Toyota Innova could be sold alongside the Innova Crysta for commerical and taxi purposes.
