Toyota Innova Crysta, Toyota Fortuner confirmed to get petrol engine option

Likely to pack the 2.0-liter or 2.7-liter four cylinder unit.

Speaking in an interview with CNBC-TV18's Business Hour, Mr. Vikram Kirloskar, Vice Chairman of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, has confirmed that the Toyota Innova Crysta and new Toyota Fortuner will get petrol engine options. A time of launch has not been divulged for the Fortuner though.

TKM could introduce a smaller 2.0-liter Dual VVT-i petrol engine in the Innova Crysta later in its lifecycle.

This could be in response to the Supreme court's ban on diesel engines with displacement of 2.0-liters and above in the Delhi NCR region, which has been further extended to April 30, 2016. Given that the 2.4 and 2.8 GD diesel engines in the Innova Crysta and 2017 Fortuner are not in compliance with the ruling, Toyota is likely to be compelled into introducing petrol variants of the two models.

TKM could introduce a smaller 2.0-liter Dual VVT-i petrol engine in the Innova Crysta later in its lifecycle, and a 2.7-liter petrol engine in the Fortuner at launch, paired to 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions.

A time of launch has not been divulged for both models.
