Toyota Innova reclaims title of 'best selling MPV' in India
TKM dispatched 7,259 units of the Innova Crysta in May.
ET Auto reports that Toyota has sold 7,259 units of the new Toyota Innova Crysta in May 2016, which is an impressive 44 percent growth in the Innova's sales as compared to May 2015.
Counting in the Innova Crysta's sales figures in last May, the month-on-month growth of the Toyota Innova lineup is now at 70 percent. Toyota sold 4,269 units of the first generation Toyota Innova in April 2016, just before the Innova Crysta was launched in the market. To put the impressive sales figures in another perspective, the Innova has clinched back the title of 'best selling MPV' from the Maruti Ertiga.
So far, Toyota has received over 20,000 bookings for the Innova Crysta. Despite the costlier price tag, a good percentage of the bookings are for the range-topping Toyota Innova Crysta 2.8 ZX AT, which is priced at INR 20.78 Lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai). It’s powered by a 2.8L GD turbodiesel engine paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The base variant is priced from INR 13.84 Lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai), and packs a smaller 2.4L turbodiesel engine paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Due to the registration ban on diesel-powered vehicles with engines displacing over 2000 cc, the Innova Crysta is not available for sale in the Delhi NCR region, one of Toyota's important cities. Reports suggest that the company lost 7 percent sales of the Toyota Innova and Toyota Fortuner due to the diesel ban.
As a temporary solution, Toyota will introduce petrol variants of the Toyota Innova Crysta, which is likely to offer a 2.7L four cylinder VVT-i unit paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
