The Triumph Scrambler 1200 will compete with the Ducati Scrambler 1100 and the BMW R NineT Scrambler in India. Globally, the Triumph Scrambler is offered in two variants – XC (base) and XE (top). Only the XC variant is planned for launch at the moment, and the XE could be launched later if there is enough demand.
The XC variant offers five riding modes – Rain, Road, Sport, Offroad, Rider-Customizable, and its safety tech includes switchable ABS and Traction Control. It is propelled by a 1,200 cc liquid-cooled, SOHC, 8-valve, 270° crank angle parallel-twin engine that makes 89 hp of power at 7,400 rpm and 110 Nm of torque at 3,950 rpm. This engine is clubbed with a six-speed gearbox.
The off-road focussed hardware includes wire-spoke wheels (front: 21-inch, rear: 17-inch) with a cross-spoke design that allows installation of tubeless tyres, tall set exhaust pipes and a bash plate.
Suspension duties are handled by 45 mm Showa upside-down front forks and Öhlins twin-spring piggyback shocks at the back - both fully adjustable. The front forks and the rear shocks feature a commendable 200 mm travel that can come handy while off-roading. Stopping power comes from twin 320 mm Brembo discs with Brembo M50 4-piston radial monobloc callipers at the front and a single 255 mm disc with Brembo 2-piston floating calliper at the rear.
