Britain's iconic motorcycle manufacturer, Triumph Motorcycles, launched the Triumph Thunderbird LT (Light Touring) in India last week. The cruiser, at a price point of Rs. 15.75 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), joins Triumph's existing range of 11 motorcycles, some of which are assembled locally.

Built to offer comfort over long journeys, the Thunderbird LT matches retro styling with a traditional cruiser's riding position and a long suspension travel, which makes it suitable for Indian conditions.

The motorcycle has a 1,699 cc parallel-twin DOHC engine strapped to it, delivering 94 PS (92.7 bhp) of power at 5,400 rpm and 151 Nm of torque at 3,550 rpm. The power is harnessed by a 6-speed gearbox.

Available in three color options Caspian Blue, Crystal White and Lava Red, and Phantom Black, the Thunderbird LT also sports a removable look-over windscreen.

Mr. Vimal Sumbly, managing director, Triumph Motorcycles India, said that the company is positive about starting manufacturing in India once the numbers pickup. Currently, the firm has a CKD facility in Manesar, Haryana, which assembles roughly half the models on sale in the country.
