EICMA Live - New Triumph Thunderbird LT, Thunderbird Commander showcased

Triumph has revealed the LT version of its Thunderbird range and the new Thunderbird Commander at the 2013 EICMA show in Milan, Italy.

2014 Triumph Thunderbird LT

The 2014 Triumph Thunderbird LT variant gets a windscreen, additional headlight, detachable leather saddlebags and a passenger backrest. These introductions make the Thunderbird platform better suited for touring duties. The seat design is revised for more lumbar support.

It shares the 1,699 cc parallel-twin engine with a 270-degree crank, with the currently-selling Thunderbird Storm. On the LT, it produces 92 hp @ 5,400 rpm and 150 Nm @ 3,550 rpm.

Suspension parts are also borrowed from the Storm. A 47mm Showa front fork with 120mm of travel and twin Showa shocks at the rear with a 5-way preload adjustable mechanism perform the suspension duties. ABS brakes are standard with supplier Nissin providing a four-piston caliper with twin 310mm front discs, and Brembo supplying a two-piston caliper with a 310mm disc to the rear. Triumph say the LT's wheels are shod with the world's first 'white-walled' tires.

2014 Triumph Thunderbird Commander

The second variant of the Thunderbird family that is premiering at the EICMA 2013 is the Thunderbird Commander. The Commander is a brawnier and chrome-rich Thunderbird variant.

It shares the 1,699cc parallel-twin engine with the LT and the Thunderbird Storm. The motor produces an identical 92 hp @ 5400rpm and 150 Nm of torque @ 3,550 rpm.

The suspension system is again familiar - 47mm Showa forks offer a travel of 120mm at the front, while a five-way preload-adjustable twin Showa shock absorbers at the rear offer 95mm of travel. The braking system is also carried over from LT.

The Commander gets a beefy 140/75 ZR17 front tire and a 200/50 ZR17 rear tire.
