Here are 5 things we know about the TVS Akula 310 that was revealed at the Auto Expo 2016 in Greater Noida earlier this month.

1. Origin

The TVS Akula 310 Racing Concept is a derivative, rather a fully faired interpretation of the BMW G310R. It was developed by TVS Racing strictly as a concept.

2. Equipment

The Akula 310 features twin headlamp provision, inverted fork, tall windscreen, split handlebars, ram-air intake, fully digital instrument panel, steering damper, split seat, and an aluminium swingarm. Some of the parts like the inverted fork, tubular steel chassis with a bolt-on subframe, cast swingarm, and alloy wheels appear to have been borrowed from the BMW G310R's parts bin.

3. Engine

The Akula 310 uses the same 313 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder DOHC engine with four valves, that drives the BMW G310R, but is retuned for the race track. The output specifications of this motor on the Akula have not been disclosed though. The engine produces 34 bhp at 9,500 rpm, and 28 Nm at 7,500 rpm on the BMW G310R on which it is mated to a six-speed transmission.

4. Production Version

The Akula 310's production version would be based on the concept but is expected to be notably different in terms of design and hardware. The engine and alloy wheels at the least would be taken from the G310R, but the former is likely to be provided in a different state of tune.

5. Launch Timeframe

The first fully faired motorcycle by TVS Motor Company was earlier expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2017, but latest reports suggest that it would be unveiled around October and launched close to the 2016 Diwali festive season.
