While the KTM 390 had a forgettable 2018, TVS Motor Company’s flagship motorcycle, the Apache RR310, has also missed its annual sales target for 2018 by a considerable margin. The company was able to sell 5,297 units throughout the year, as against its yearly target of 10,000 motorcycles.

TVS Motor Company had set a yearly target of 10,000 unit sales for the Apache RR310. The motorcycle, however, found only 5,297 buyers throughout the year.

The sales of the motorcycle dipped in the last two months to the worse during the year, to 132 units and 185 units in November and December respectively. The fall in sales can be associated with the rise of on-road prices due to an increase in the insurance cost. The introduction of the Royal Enfield 650 Twins at competitive prices and the relatively pocket-friendly Jawa bikes would have further caused trouble to the Apache RR310.

The TVS Apache RR310 made its debut at INR 2.05 Lakh while it now retails for INR 2.23 lakh – both ex-showroom Delhi. However, it's approximately INR 20,000 cheaper than the KTM 390 Duke. Apart from India, TVS Motor Company offers the Apache RR310 in Nepal and Peru as well.

The monthly sales numbers of the TVS Apache RR310 are listed below:

Month (2018) Units sold
January 242
February 353
March 983
April 862
May 595
June 476
July 351
August 343
September 350
October 425
November 132
December 185

The motorcycle features the biggest engine on TVS’s production motorcycle. The 312 cc reverse inclined, single cylinder, liquid cooled, 4-valve fuel injected (Bosch - Closed-loop EFI) engine of the Apache RR 310 delivers 34 PS of maximum power at 9,700 rpm and 27.3 Nm of peak torque at 7,700 rpm.

Meanwhile, the BMW G310 twins – the G 310 R and G 310 GS have made it to the top five selling BMW Motorrad products of 2018. BMW Motorrad sold as many as 24,363 units of the G 310 R and G 310 GS models globally. In December 2018, the company rolled out the 50,000th BMW 310 cc series motorcycle from TVS Motor Company’s Hosur plant.

The increased insurance cost and the arrival of motorcycles like the Royal Enfield 650 Twins and the Jawa are some of the reasons for lower sales numbers towards the end of 2018.

Despite the premium price tag, BMW Motorrad sold 1,640 units of the G 310 R and G 310 GS in 2018 in India. The BMW G 310 GS retails at INR 3.49 lakh, while the G 310 R is available for INR 2.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) in the Indian market.
