TVS XL100 wears camouflage paint & knobby tyres

The TVS XL 100 here, with a custom camouflage theme, looks striking, to say the least. The changes, however, are limited to visuals.

The custom camouflage paint is seen on the body and the footboard while the fenders have been painted black. The multi-utility moped retains its wire-spoked wheels although it comes wrapped in knobby tyres that would come handy on broken roads, or muddy surfaces. Another noticeable upgrade is the saddle that, instead of the standard black cover, gets a leather finish.

The XL100 retains its original handlebar, and thus ergonomics remain upright and comfortable.

Mechanical upgrades are unlikely. Thus, the TVS XL100 in the photograph most likely uses the stock 99.7 cc 4-stroke, single cylinder engine with 51.0 mm X 48.8 mm (Bore x Stroke). The engine is tuned to deliver 4.3 bhp of power @ 6,000 rpm and 6.5 Nm of torque 3,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a single-speed gearbox. That may not seem like a lot of power, but the TVS XL100 weighs just 80 kg (kerb). The moped has a payload capacity of 130 kg.

The fuel tank capacity is 4-litre that includes 1.3-litre reserve. While that may not be a lot of fuel storage, the moped boasts a fuel economy of 67 kmpl giving it a decent range of 268 km between fuel stops.

An 80 mm front drum brake and a 110 mm rear drum unit provide the stopping power. A conventional telescopic spring type hydraulic unit upfront and hydraulic shocks at the rear perform suspension duties. The front suspension gets some protection with the rubber cover. The suspension is claimed to offer a comfortable ride on any kind of surface.

The moped is built around a strong chassis aimed to provide better strength in the challenging surfaces that it be used on. The bodywork is all-metal which ensures more durability and less damage in case of a crash. The moped comes with a three-year warranty for better ownership experience.
