The SsangYong Tivoli is available as the Tivoli and Tivoli Air (Tivoli XLV). Similarly, the Mahindra S201 based on its platform will also have two versions, says a report from Autocar India.

The Mahindra S201 will have a longer version offering seats for seven.

The SsangYong Tivoli Air differentiates itself with the rear overhang that increases the space for storage. Ssangyong calls it a ‘SUV-estate’.

The Mahindra S201 will have a bigger version with a different purpose - making space for third-row seats. The SsangYong Tivoli is bigger than 4 metres in length, but Mahindra is trimming it to less than 4 metres to compete closer to the mass market and challenge high volume models like the Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Ford EcoSport.

The report does not mention details about the extended version’s seating arrangement. SsangYong had tried jump seats in the SsangYong Tivoli’s longer version when it was a concept (SsangYong Tivoli XLV-Air). Mahindra could offer jump seats in the 7-seat version, as it would not want this model cannibalising the Mahindra XUV500’s sales. The longer model would take on the Renault Duster and the Hyundai Creta.

Mahindra will offer the SsangYong X100 platform-based Mahindra S201 and its 7-seat version with 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engines. The petrol engine will produce around 140 hp, while the diesel engine will develop as much as 125 hp. Mahindra had previously announced that it would launch the S201 in H2 FY2019 (October 2018-March 2019). The report, however, says that the launch will take place in mid-2018. There’s no word on when the 7-seat version will arrive.
