Two women riders – Debolina Mukherjee, 26 from Bardhaman and Riya Roy, 22 from Asansol – completed a 1,701 km long road trip starting from Bardhaman on October 23, 2018, in a record time of eight days. It’s the first time that two women in India have accomplished such a feat.

Debolina Mukherjee and Riya Roy completed their 1,701 km long road trip in eight days. They travelled from Bardhaman to Gangtok and back in those eight days becoming the first women to do so.

Their journey began on their self-owned Aprilia scooters from Bardhaman to Siliguri, taking the Singtham-Dichku route to reach the Northern Sikkim town of Mangan, travelling across Gurudongmar with a stop at Gangtok before turning back to Siliguri and touching base at Bardhaman, completing the road trip on October 31.

Riya Roy, an avid biker, purchased an Aprilia SR 150 eighteen months ago and has gone on road trips to Nagaland, Myanmar and Arunachal Pradesh in the past. Commenting on her experience of riding the Aprilia SR 150, Roy said:

(On the SR150) I could maintain great speed even riding uphill and the 14-inch wheels were of great advantage for off-roading as well as eliminated unnecessary vibrations; making the journey smooth and comfortable.

Debolina, who was on her first road trip, said:

I purchased my Aprilia SR 150 Race two months ago and I was delighted to explore Sikkim by road. The journey was comfortable, and the bike did not require any service throughout our eight-day trip. My Aprilia SR 150 Race was easy to maneuver even across the uneven and slippery roads; giving me more control of the bike.

The women rode on their Aprilia SR 150 and SR 150 Race scooters in stock condition to achieve the feat.
