Upcoming 300-400 cc motorcycles in India - Part 2

The Indian two-wheeler industry is going through severe turbulent times. To give you an idea, two-wheeler sales in July 2019 fell by almost a whopping 17%. That’s not all, volumes in the financial year so far (April to July) have dropped by 13%. However, manufacturers believe that the market will recover soon, and this is just a temporary downturn. We shared a list of upcoming 300-400 cc motorcycles in India recently. Here is a continuation of this list:

KTM Duke 390 update: baby scalpel to get sharper

The updated KTM Duke 390 will have several mechanical changes along with a few cosmetic ones.

The baby Duke is all set to get a mid-life update but not before EICMA 2020. While most of the changes will be made to deal with the upcoming emission norms. While the design philosophy may remain the same, the frame, rear subframe and swingarm will be all new.

The upside-down fork up front may gain preload adjustability! The powerplant will have a redesigned exhaust manifold. Besides that, spy images from Germany have suggested a modified cylinder head. In its present tune, KTM Duke 390 is powered by a 373.2 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, engine that churns out 43.5 PS of power and 37 Nm of torque. That’s a power-to-weight ratio of 267 PS/ton! The bike shall continue to be shod with premium rubber.

Also, the updated KTM Duke 390 is expected to have a larger fuel tank. The tail lamp will likely be bigger.

CFMoto 300SR: Chinese aggression has a new name

The CFMoto 300SR is expected to be launched in India sometime in mid-2020.

CFMoto's Indian line-up will be expanded with the CFMoto 300SR, a fully-faired motorcycle, by mid-2020. IAB's rendering of the future model shows sleek LED headlights surrounded by a C-shaped LED daytime running lights. The side panel unveiled in the concept continues to flaunt muscular exuberance.

The CFMoto 300SR will feature upside-down fork up front and a monoshock at the rear. Brakes include discs at both ends, supplemented with ABS. An underbelly exhaust takes place of the Akrapovic unit seen in the concept CFMoto 250SR. The powertrain is expected to be the same 292.4 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC engine from the CFMoto 300NK. Output figures of this engine stand at 33.9 PS of power and 20.5 Nm of torque.

Besides that, the features list will include all-digital instrumentation and J.Juan calliper. An official unveiling is expected later this year at EICMA 2019. The Indian price tag can be expected to hover around the INR 2.5 lakh (ex-showroom) mark.

Husqvarna Vitpilen 401: Austro-Swedish neo-retro motorcycle to rule India soon!

Boy, the folks at KTM-Husqvarna sure do know how to design their motorcycles. While the Duke 390 is all about exuberance, the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 is all about minimalism. The progressive-looking machine combines retro styling with modern technology.

Key features include a circular LED headlamp, digital instrumentation and premium rubber. The powertrain will be the same 373 cc single-cylinder mill from KTM Duke 390. In its present tune, it produces 43.5 PS of power and 37 Nm of torque. There's a 6-speed gearbox that works in tandem with a slipper clutch. However, the tall 835 mm seat height may come in the way for many riders.

Suspension duties are taken care of by 43 mm upside-down fork up front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking duties are performed by discs at both ends with dual-channel ABS. Also, the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 is expected to be launched in India later this year. The price tag will hover around the INR 3 lakh (ex-showroom) mark.

Kawasaki Z400: Naked Japanese warrior

The Kawasaki Z400's engine, in its full blast, produces 48 PS of power, which is almost identical to that of the Kawasaki Ninja 400.

Based on the fully-faired sports-tourer Ninja 400, the Kawasaki Z400 is expected to be launched in India in the next couple of months. The flowing design that floats over the engine, crouching stance, low-positioned head and upswept tail look impressive.

Suspension duties include 41 mm conventional telescopic fork at the front and a bottom link monoshock at the rear. The powertrain is a 399 cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin, DOHC mill. Coupled to a 6-speed gearbox, the engine can produce 48 PS of power and 38 Nm of torque. In the Euro-spec version, though, the maximum power is limited to 45 PS to be A2-compliant. Besides that, the Kawasaki Z400 is fitted with a slipper clutch as standard. Also, its digital instrumentation unit is the same as that of the Kawasaki Z650.

The Kawasaki Z400 has a kerb weight of 167 kg. Its frame is a lightweight trellis unit which is reminiscent of the Kawasaki Ninja H2. The engine is rigid-mounted and used as a stressed member.

Braking duties are performed by a 310 mm disc at the front with a dual-piston calliper and a 220 mm disc, also with a dual-piston calliper, at the rear. Besides that, the Kawasaki Z400 has an easily accessible seat height of 785 mm. Expect the bike to be priced between INR 3.6-3.8 lakh (ex-showroom).

Jawa Perak: An Indian bobber from the house of Mahindra

The Jawa Perak was originally announced with a price tag of INR 1.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Unveiled in November 2018 along with the standard Jawa and Forty-Two, the Jawa Perak is the first-ever bobber by an Indian manufacturer. One look at the Perak and the matte black colour scheme will make you go weak in the knees.

At the heart of the Jawa Perak is a re-bored 334 cc DOHC, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, fuel-injected mill. Mated to a 6-speed gearbox, the engine produces 30 PS of power and 31 Nm of torque. The Jawa Perak is underpinned by a double-cradle chassis. However, its rear sub-frame is entirely omitted to complete the bobber look. While the swingarm and the under-seat rear mono-shock is designed in such a way that the bike seems to have a hard-tail chassis.

Brakes include discs at both ends. Besides that, the Jawa Perak has a single cantilever leather-wrapped seat. It comes with chopped front and rear fenders and an under-seat mounted tail light. The flat handlebar, bar-end mirrors and the retro turn signals highlight the classic bobber design.

Also, the Jawa Perak comes with an 18-inch front and 17-inch rear with spoke rims. The rear tyre is a Pirelli Angel CT, while the front is a Pirelli Sports Demon. The Perak was originally announced with a price tag of INR 1.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
