Mercedes G63 AMG 6X6 is six times the fun of driving an SUV [Video]

A regular G63 AMG is perhaps the world's best off-roader. But can you better it by adding an axle?

Mercedes has dropped all the official details of the G63 AMG 6X6 which matches the fury of the twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 to six different wheels at the same time. A seven-speed gearbox shuttles the 544 hp via three axles.

A low-range ratio, five differential locks, portal axles, tyre pressure control system and a special chassis with a GC of 15.75 inches essentially means that you can drive as the crow flies. Massive hill climbs? 40 inches of water? "Easy" says this 6X6 beast.

Developing the 6X6 beast was not a major task for the AMG team. Mercedes has been building G Wagons for so long and in so many different configurations that everything needed for this vehicle came from the parts bin. Even the 6X6 drivetrain came from a version of the G-Wagon that Mercedes used to build for the Australian army.

While at the traffic lights the G63 AMG 6X6 may seem like a military vehicle that's lost its way, it is mostly certainly going to be bought by an Arab Sheikh. So it may be macho from outside but it tries to be an S-Class inside.

The interior gets designer leather in a choice of red or light brown with contrast stitching. The loading bay is covered in highly durable (and expensive) bamboo. The electrically adjustable individual seats are both heated and ventilated.

The AMG division has confirmed that the G63 AMG 6X6 is headed for a small series production if they find the adequate demand. Just play this video in any shopping mall at Dubai and we are sure that AMG would be flushed with orders.
