Vintage Royal Enfield Classic 500 by Puranam Designs

Puranam Designs from Delhi have transformed a 2010 Royal Enfield Classic 500 into a custom bike that looks straight out of the 1930’s.

P Santosh Kumar of Puranam Designs is the man behind this project. The motorcycle features a stripped down frame sans the rear shock absorbers to give it an authentic hardtail feel. The custom single seat is sprung and is made of maroon leather. The toolbox gets matching leather with buckles. As a result, it not only reinforces the vintage aura of the bike; but also adds contrast to the turquoise blue colour of the motorcycle.

The custom handlebars come with an off-set single pod instrument cluster. Another novel feature is that the design house has mounted the custom tank on the sides of the top tube of the frame with two clamps on top. The front suspension is a girder type unit, which is one of the earliest types of motorcycle suspension. The offset round front headlight is custom as well.

Despite all the vintage modifications, the engine is still a modern unit with fuel injection. The powerplant looks stock, apart from the conical air filter. The 499cc single cylinder mill puts out 27.2 bhp of power at 5,250 rpm and 41.3 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. It mates with a 5-speed transmission. The bike comes with a chrome off-road type upswept exhaust. The front uses a 280 mm disc while the rear gets a 153 mm drum. The 19-inch spoke wheels are shod with Duro tyres.
