Vitara Brezza & Baleno drive MSIL sales up by 26.7% in August

MSIL reported a YoY sales jump of 26.7% for the month of August clocking total domestic sales of 152,000 units. Total exports of 11,701 take the cumulative sales figure for August 2017 to 163,701.

The Maruti Baleno helped MSIL report a YoY increment of 62.7% in the compact segment for the month of August.

The Maruti Vitara Brezza and Maruti Baleno once again emerged as major sales drivers. The compact segment comprising Baleno, Swift, Dzire, Celerio, and Ignis witnessed a jump of 62.4% over the same period last year. MSIL sold 74,012 units as compared to August 2016's tally of 45,579 units. As reported on August 1, the Maruti Baleno still commands a waiting period of around 16 weeks, despite having been on sale for 21 months.

Sales of the utility vehicles driven by the Maruti Vitara Brezza jumped by 27.6% to 21,442 in August 2017 as compared 16,806 units sold over the same period last year. Maruti continues to dominate the compact SUV segment with the Brezza. Customers have to wait for up to 22 weeks to get their hands on the popular SUV.

Exports witnessed a downward trend with sales declining by 4.7% to 11,701 unit in August 2017. However, MSIL continues to rule the domestic market with a market share of 51.7%.

Maruti's next launch is expected to take place this month in the form of the 2017 Maruti S-Cross facelift. Early next year, the company will launch the new Maruti Swift, which is likely to have its India debut at the 2018 Auto Expo on February 9.
