Volkswagen India confirms the VW Passat & VW Tiguan for this year

Both models will be assembled at VW's plant in Chakan, Pune.

Volkswagen India has confirmed through a press release that they will launch the all-new VW Passat and VW Tiguan in India this year. Both models will be assembled at VW's plant in Chakan and will be the first two MQB-based cars from VW India.

At the tape, the VW Tiguan is 4,486 mm long, 1,839 mm wide and 2,095 mm in high, and has a wheelbase of 2,677 mm.

The Tiguan will be VW’s only SUV offering this year, slotting in the premium mid-size SUV segment that comprises of the Honda CR-V and Hyundai Tucson. At the tape, the Tiguan is 4,486 mm long, 1,839 mm wide and 2,095 mm in high, and has a wheelbase of 2,677 mm. Engine options could include a 190 PS 2.0 TDI 4-cyl turbodiesel engine and a 150 PS 1.4-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

The new Passat will make a return to India in its latest B8 avatar. It measures 4,767 mm long, 1,832 mm wide and 1,456 mm in high. Compared to the model last sold in India, the new Passat is 2 mm shorter, 12 mm wider and 6 mm lower, and the wheelbase is stretched by 79 mm to 2,791 mm.

It will share the 2.0L TDI diesel engine with the Tiguan, while a petrol hybrid Passat GTE variant is being considered, which combines a 154 bhp 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine with an 115 bhp electric motor.
