USA - Volkswagen to showcase two new concepts at the Detroit Auto Show

Organizers of the North American International Auto Show had recently released a list of models that make their debut in Detroit this year.

While no names or details were shared, the information mentions that Volkswagen would display two new concepts.

2015 VW Golf GTI from the 2013 New York Auto Show added for illustration purpose.

The mysterious cars would be based on existing vehicles, according to a new report by Automotive News, and one would feature a fuel-saving powertrain that could find a place on production VW models for the United States.

The second display will be an off-road concept based on a mainstay model of the VW brand.

While the first concept could be based on any of the existing cars, we wonder if the other could be a Golf Cross concept. VW may give the go-ahead to an off road version of the Golf as an answer to the Subaru XV Crosstrek and the all new Suzuki SX4.

The North American International Auto Show begins on January 13th, so expect new details to trickle in next week.
