Volkswagen Touareg Edition X celebrates 10 years of Touareg

It has been 10 years since Volkswagen entered the mid-size crossover race with the Touareg.

The Touareg Mk1 was developed by Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche as a combined effort and premiered at the 2002 Paris Motor Show.

The joint efforts also lead to two other SUV namely Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne. The Volkswagen Touareg created a stir in the market as it had so much torque it managed to tow a huge Boeing 747!

It has been 10 years since the time it was launched and Volkswagen wants to celebrate the occasion with the Touareg Edition X. The special edition garnish include –

  • Bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lamps
  • Smoked taillights
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • 19-inch “Moab” wheels
  • Tinted windows
  • Silver anodized trim
  • Special X badging

Volkswagen Touareg Edition X Interiors

  • Amber Brown Nappa leather in a braid embossed style
  • Ebony inlays on the door panels
  • Illuminated ‘Touareg X’ decals on door sills
  • Color-coordinated stitching on the leather-wrapped steering wheel, gear shifter, and the floor mats

Volkswagen Touareg Edition X Mechanicals

The Volkswagen Touareg Edition X is offered with a choice of five engine and transmission combinations, including a hybrid version. The range of engine options include –

  • 3.0-liter V-6 TDI with 204 or 245 hp
  • 4.2-liter V-8 TDI with 340 hp
  • 3.6-liter V-6 with 280-hp
  • and a 340-hp hybrid

All engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Volkswagen Touareg Edition X is launched at an entry price of €61,025 in Germany (around 41 lakhs INR).

The new Touareg was recently launched in India for an entry price of 58.5 lakhs. No sales figures are available as of now so it is too early to make out whether it is a success or otherwise.
