Design and technology to be shared with the new Volvo XC90.

A few more details about the Volvo S80 successor, the Volvo S90, which launches later this year, has emerged.

Volvo S90 could be inspired by the Volvo Concept Universe, says the report.

While it's being said that the S90 will take some design inspiration from the 2011 Volvo Concept Universe, the car is expected to share a lot of technology and features with the recently launched, and India bound Volvo XC90. That includes the powertrain options, starting with D4 and D5 diesels and going all the way up to the 400 hp, 600 Nm producing plug-in hybrid T8.

Thor-Hammer headlamp and the vertically stacked grille are signature design features to watch out for on the S90.

The S90 will be based on Volvo's SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform. Last November, the Swedish manufacturer had revealed plans of increasing the capacity of its assembly plant in Daqing, China, where a "new premium sedan", the S90 in all likeliness, would be manufactured, so there's a possibility that Volvo could make and sell the S90 in China first, before taking it overseas, or launch a customized S90 like a long wheelbase variant.
