The front fascia of the Volvo S90 is characterised by the Thor's Hammer headlamps, chrome grille with vertical bars, large air vents with silver blades, and fog lamps flanking the slender air dam. The side profile is treated with chrome trims on doors and chrome strip surrounding the windows, that complement the large alloy wheels. The rear end has C-shaped tail lamps that are inspired by the Volvo Concept Coupe, and dual exhaust tips.

The interior of the S90 gets very few buttons. The notable features include a 9-inch Sensus touchscreen-equipped infotainment system, Bowers and Wilkins audio system, a Head Up display, and the Pilot Assist which is a semi-autonomous program that controls the car on highways without the driver's inputs, up to speeds close to 130 km/h, by using the lane markers to keep the vehicle aligned between them.
