Live - Volvo V40 Cross Country launched at Rs. 28.5 lakhs [Image Update]

The Volvo V40 Cross Country, the entry level luxury segment contender from the Swedish car maker has been launched in India today.

Mr. Tomas Ernberg, MD, Volvo Auto India and Mr. Sudeep Narayan, Marketing and PR Director, Volvo Auto India launched the Volvo V40 Cross Country in India.

The car, which is basically a jacked up version of the Volvo V40 hatchback, will be competing with crossovers like the BMW X1, Audi Q3 and entry level Mercs like the A and B Class.

Volvo V40 Cross Country adopts a raised suspension, rugged looking plastic body cladding all around, roof rails and an imposing set of 17" alloy wheels. That makes it a mini SUV! The car measures 4.37m in length, 1.78m in width, 1.45m in height and has a wheelbase of 2.64m.

The V40 Cross Country is offered in only one variant. It is powered by a 2.0 litre five cylinder D3 diesel engine that generates 150bhp and 350 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission. The car can accelerate from 0-100kph in 9.3 seconds. The claimed mileage stands at 16.8kpl.

The name Volvo is synonymous with safety. The V40 Cross Country offers hordes of safety features like 7 airbags including SIPS (Side Impact Protection System) airbags, curtain and knee airbags, the City Safety Tech which senses impending collisions and decelerates the car automatically if the driver fails to do so, Dynamic Stability and Traction Control, Laser Assisted Automatic Braking and whiplash protection.

The V40 Cross Country also comes with a long list of standard equipment like AC with clean air filter technology, Park Assist Pilot which uses ultrasonic sensors to inform the driver whether the car would slot into the parking space, front and rear parking sensors with rear parking camera, remote keyless entry, button Start/Stop, illuminated gear knob and LED daytime running lights with Active Bending Technology.

The new instrument console with Adaptive Digital Display is also on offer. The ADD offers three driving modes - Elegance, Eco and Performance. The instrument panel display will change its backlight color and decides on what information to display according to the driving mode selected.

You also get a panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, Volvo Sensus audio system, Start/Stop technology and Engine Brake Energy Regeneration.

The Volvo V40 Cross Country comes to India as a CBU. The entry level luxury car is priced at Rs. 28.5 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
