Production of the current Volvo XC90 will soon move to China as Europe takes over the production of the next-generation XC90 which is based on the all-new SPA platform. The current XC90, repositioned to a lower segment, will be sold as the Volvo XC Classic in China and production will start in the second half of the year.

A spyshot of the production-ready SUV has been posted on Chinese website Autohome. The 7-seater SUV seen in the images wears the 'Classic' badge on the tailgate, but does not get apparent cosmetic updates.

As per the report, the XC Classic gets a single 2.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine that makes 217 hp. It would be available only in the 'T5' trim which gets the Volvo All-Wheel Drive system. The Classic measures 4,807 mm in length, 1,936 mm in width and 1,784 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,857 mm, identical to the current car's specifications.

The next-generation Volvo XC90 is expected towards the end of the year.
