VW Ameo’s 1.2L petrol engine silently replaced with 1.0L engine
Last month, the VW Polo’s 1.2L petrol engine was replaced with the 1.0L petrol engine. This month, Volkswagen India has introduced the same change to the VW Ameo.
The new three-cylinder petrol engine is the same unit from the VW Polo. It produces 76 PS at 6,200 rpm and 95 Nm of torque at 3,000-4,300 rpm. In comparison, the old, bigger capacity three-cylinder petrol engine develops 75 PS at 5,400 rpm and 110 Nm of torque at 3,750 rpm. A 5-speed manual transmission is still standard.
The VW Ameo with the 1.2L MPI petrol engine delivers a fuel economy (ARAI) of 17.83 km/l. The VW Ameo 1.0L MPI’s fuel economy rating (ARAI) isn’t out yet, but an improvement of around 2 km/l is expected. The VW Polo saw its fuel economy rating increasing by 2.31 km/l to 18.78 km/l with the engine swap.
