First VW Ameo rolls out of Volkswagen Pune plant

The first VW Ameo has rolled out of Volkswagen India's plant in Pune, ahead of its expected launch in July 2016. Bookings are currently open at various VW dealerships across India.

The VW Ameo is the first sub-4m sedan from the German manufacturer.

VW has invested INR 720 crores in its development & production, and is the first sub-4m sedan from the German manufacturer. The exterior of the VW Ameo is largely identical to the VW Polo save for the stubby boot and taillamp design. VW has emphasized on safety and are offering dual front airbags and ABS as standard fitment across all variants. It also has a segment-first static cornering lights in the top-end grade.

Speaking of grade, the e-brochure has confirmed that the VW Ameo will be available in three grades - Trendline, Comfortline and Highline - spread across petrol, diesel and diesel automatic variants.

Features standard in the top-end Highline include reverse camera with reverse sensors, front armrest with rear AC vent, automatic climate control, electrically-retractable wing mirrors, auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror, foglights with static cornering lights, rear defogger, touchscreen MirrorLink system and steering mounted controls.

Features in the top-end Highline grade include touchscreen MirrorLink system, rain sensing wipers and steering mounted controls.

The Ameo will be equipped with an updated version of the 1.5-liter TDI diesel engine or a 1.2-liter three-cylinder MPI petrol engine. Transmission options include 5-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG gearbox, whereas the petrol engine will feature a 5-speed manual.
