Images of a special edition VW Ameo spotted on public roads have been published by MotorBeam. Likely to be called VW Ameo Sport, the test unit features cosmetic additions and change when compared with the standard Ameo.

Black roof, stripes, alloys, lip spoiler and boot garnish, are features that can be seen in the pictures of the VW Ameo Sport shared online.

Additions to the exterior visible in the images include decals towards the bottom of the doors, rear black lip spoiler, black garnish on the boot, and a blacked out roof. It swaps the standard rims for black alloy wheels. The decals are quite similar to the one the Ameo Crest gets. The black bootlid garnish is also a part of the Crest special edition package.

The example that was spotted does not carry TDI badging on the boot lid indicating that this one is powered by a petrol engine. It is likely to retain the current 1.2 L unit that produces 74 bhp and 110 Nm. Diesel variants feature a 1.5 L TDI engine that produces 109 bhp and 250 Nm. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard. The VW Ameo diesel is available with a 7-speed DSG automatic as well.

The engine and transmission choices are likely to remain the same.

Volkswagen rolls out special edition versions of the Vento and Polo frequently in an attempt to ensure the ageing products stay relevant. Despite being relatively new in the market, the VW Ameo has fallen behind its rivals. Volkswagen might be looking to give its sales a much-needed push with the special edition version towards the end of this year or early next year.
