To go on sale in UK in late 2017.

Volkswagen has dropped the first official look at the upcoming replacement of VW CC 4-door coupe via a design sketch of its face and profile. It is called the VW Arteon, and its world premiere is set to take place 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March.

In August, unofficial renderings designed with insider information gave away the exterior design, while the interior was leaked subsequently taking the surprise element complete away from it. A rendering artist had used leaked images from Volkswagen's infotainment software to create the realistic mockups.

Autocar UK has managed to unearth fresh details on the VW Arteon, the brand's first all new product since Dieselgate. It is based on a stretched version of the MQB (Modular Transverse Matrix) platform, and 50 mm longer than the outgoing Passat (B7)-based VW CC for increased cabin space, especially for rear occupants. The Arteon is reported to offer up to 1,700L of luggage volume (rear seats folded). With more practicality, VW hopes that Arteon will lure more customers than the VW CC did in its lifecycle.

The lineup of engines is likely to be sourced from its MQB-based siblings, which include engines such as the 1.4 TSI and 2.0 TSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines, and a 2.0 TDI turbodiesel unit for certain markets. The Arteon will debut an all-new 7-speed DSG gearbox. Complementing its dynamic character and styling is a range-topping 2.0L four cylinder TSI engine that produces 276 hp, which could be sent to all wheels via the 4MATIC system.

The Arteon is 50 mm longer than the outgoing Passat (B7)-based VW CC for increased cabin space, especially for rear occupants.

As for the exterior design, it borrows cues from the VW Sport Coupé GTE concept unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. VW briefly summarizes the Arteon's exterior as a "highly expressive, horizontally accentuated brand look". Like the outgoing model, it will have frame-less doors that "reflect the typical stylistic elements of a grand tourer".
