VW Beetle Dune crossover leaked! Premieres at Detroit

VW will show a crossover based on the iconic Beetle at the Detroit Motor Show which commences next week. Called the 'Beetle Dune', here are the first sketches of the car.

The VW Beetle Dune will premiere at the Detroit Motor Show next week.

On the outside, the Beetle Dune receives a tough looking bodykit which comprises of new bumpers with integrated skid guards, flared wheel arches with plastic inserts and huge 19-inch alloy wheels. Since VW will call this a recreational vehicle, a pair of skis are also visible on the rear. Inside, the Beetle Dune sports a dual-tone color scheme combining yellow for the dashboard, door trims, steering and seat inserts along with the traditional black for the center console and door handles. Unlike the Cross Polo sold in India, the Beetle Dune comes with certain mechanical upgrades for a go-anywhere appeal. The ride height has been increased by 30 mm and VW engineers have also provided an XDS electronic differential if the going gets tough.

The Beetle Dune will be powered by a 2.0-liter TSI engine (same engine used in the Golf GTI) producing 217 hp. Like the Golf GTI, it will use a 6-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission. According to a report, VW will conduct the feasibility study of the Beetle Dune at the Detroit Show. Based on the study, the management will decide whether or not to put the Dune into production.
