VW India launched the Beetle in 2009, and were one of the first manufactures to set up a niche hatchback segment. However, its chic styling and high price tag did not appeal to prospective customers, forcing VW India to discontinue the New Beetle as soon as stocks ran out.

With rivals like Mini Cooper garnering interest in the niche hatchback segment, VW will try their luck once again with the new generation model. Unveiled to the Indian public at the 2012 Auto Expo, the latest model retains the iconic silhouette, but has been updated to look more dynamic and muscular than before. The styling is more angular, has a raked roofline, and comes with a spoiler integrated at the back.

The upcoming VW Beetle will pack a 1.4-liter TSI engine that is similar to the one in the 2015 VW Jetta. It will be imported into the country via the CBU channel. Prices are expected to hover between INR 30-35 Lakhs (Ex showroom, Delhi).
