VW had showcased no fewer than 6 concepts demonstrating the variations possible on the Up! small car at 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and the Cross Up! was one of the ideas.

The Cross Up! is basically a hatchback with some visual add-ons and a slightly raised ride height. The Cross Up! concept in different colors were displayed at this year's Geneva Motor Show and VW admitted that they are considering the car for production.

Carscoop.blogspot.com has spotted an undisguised test mule of the Cross Up! which suggests that the VW board has signed off the Cross Up! for production. The car remains true to the concept shown and also gets a black strip running along the lower part of the doors bearing the name of the car.

Compared to the regular Up! the Cross Up! sports raised suspension, black plastic protective cladding around the car's bottom including the wheel arches. The bumper has a prominent silver element which houses the fog lamps and the license plate.

Going by the Cross Polo and the Cross Golf, the Cross Up! will stay mechanically identical to its regular hatchback sibling which means it will continue to use the 1.0 litre motor which is offered in two different states of tune producing 60 bhp and 75 bhp.
