The VW Golf Alltrack gets 4MOTION as standard equipment, and a higher ground clearance.

Europe's largest car maker describes the Golf Alltrack as a cross between a station wagon and a SUV (similar to the Seat Leon X-Perience). The fifth variant of the VW Golf comes with a rough road package which includes front and rear skid plates, plastic lower body cladding with protectors, exclusive bumpers and alloy wheels. To add more purpose, VW has jacked up the ride height by a good 20 mm.

The interior comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear lever, 'Dark Magnesium' accents for the centre console, 'Tracks' trim for the dashboard and door pads, 'Alltrack' branded seat covers and ambient lighting.

Powering the raised station wagon are four turbocharged engines out of which three burn diesel. The lone petrol engine is a 1.8-litre TSI while the diesel units include a 1.6-litre TDI and a 2.0-litre TDI which is available in two avatars. The power output ranges from 110 PS to 184 PS.

VW has not revealed the transmission options but expect the Euro 6 engine lineup to be mated to a six- or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The company however confirmed that all the four motors will be delivering the power via the 4MOTION permanent all-wheel drive system with standard front differential lock.

The VW Golf Alltrack is expected to go on sale in Europe in mid-2015.
