VW has commenced bookings for the Golf Sportsvan in Germany. The car was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September through a pre-production prototype. Though VW called the show car a 'concept', it was production ready.

The Golf Sportsvan replaces the Golf Plus variant.

The Golf Sportsvan will replace the Golf Plus variant. To begin with, the Sportsvan is offered with four petrol and two diesel engines, all of which are Euro 6 compliant. The petrol engines feature VW's TSI technology and are available with 85 hp, 110 hp, 125 hp and 150 hp, while the diesels are available with 110 hp and 150 hp. VW's dual-clutch DSG transmission is available as an optional extra.

VW believes that the Sportsvan will appeal to younger families and new generation customers. Its predecessor, the Golf Plus, on the other hand was primarily bought by older customers.

The model will be offered with four petrol engines and two diesel motors.

Measuring 4.34 meters in length, the Sportsvan features a wheelbase spanning 2,685 mm, which is 10 inches more than the Golf Plus. The rear seats of the car can be slid fore and aft, or can be folded in a 40:20:40 ratio, or a 60:40 ratio. With the rear seats folded flat, the Sportsvan accommodates 1,512 liters of luggage.

The entry level Sportsvan Trendline model is priced from EUR 19,625 (INR 16.6 lakhs), the mid Comfortline from EUR 21,775 (INR 18.47 lakhs) and the top-end Highline from EUR 27,600 (INR 23.42 lakhs).
