Germany - VW rolls out first Golf Sportsvan from Wolfsburg
Volkswagen has rolled out the first ever Golf Sportsvan from its Wolfsburg plant that also manufactures the Golf hatchback. The Golf Sportsvan will replace the Golf Plus model in the international markets.
The first Golf Sportsvan is of the Highline trim, with a panoramic sunroof, powered by a 1.4-liter TSI engine that makes 150 hp.
The five-seat mini MPV's price starts at 19,625 Euros (Rs 16.63 lakh) and ends at 32,050 Euros (Rs. 27.31 lakh) in Germany. The car made its debut as a pre-production concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year
The Sportsvan is available with a choice of two TSI turbo petrol engines and two TDI diesel engines, nine exterior colours with four different shades for the interior. Volkswagen says it will introduce two additional TSI engine options by Spring 2014.
The three-seater rear bench seat can be folded down and moved 180 mm in the longitudinal direction, giving the car a total cargo volume of 1,500 liters.
At launch, the Sportsvan gets four engines - an 85 PS 1.2 L TSI petrol engine that develops 85 PS and 160 Nm mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox, a 1.4L TSI that develops 150 PS and 250 Nm mated either to a 6-speed MT or a 7-speed DSG, a 1.6L TDI that makes 110 PS and 250 Nm mated either to a 5-speed MT or a 7-speed DSG, and finally a 2.0L TDI that makes 150 PS and 320 Nm mated either to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DSG.
All engines get start-stop system as standard and conform to Euro VI norms.
At present, the Golf Sportsvan remains a front-wheel-drive car and we expect VW to sell an all-wheel drive version soon.
