Beijing Live - Volkswagen New Midsize Coupe concept

Volkswagen has unveiled the New Midsize Coupe concept at the ongoing Beijing Auto Show.

Built on the MQB-B Platform, VW has taken a drastic approach to this concept, with the car being abnormally wide and rather short in length. The concept measures 4,597 mm in length - making it shorter than a Passat or a Jetta - 1,838 mm in width and 1,422 mm in height, putting it just above the Vento, in proportion.

The car is styled with LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights, a radiator grille with three cross fins, aerodynamic air inlets near the front wheels, a passenger cabin that is set far back, twin shoulder section design, 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, 3D LED rear lights and a high gloss black rear diffuser.

The car has a low visual centre of gravity, short overhangs, muscular shoulders and side sections, a dynamic roof line with markedly swept-back C-pillars, a short boot lid and long bonnet. VW aims to make this midsizer an avant garde of a new spacious compact saloon class.

The concept is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 220 hp, allowing it to go from 0-100 kph in 6.5 seconds and eventually to a top speed of 250 kph. It is driven via a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox.

Volkswagen says the vehicle has enough space for five adults, and a boot that can hold up to 500 liters of luggage.
